History of School Bond Elections in Nocona

First Nocona High School built in 1894, damaged by a tornado about 1909, and demolished in 1922.

  • In 1921, the Nocona voters passed a bond 170 to 46 (83%) to build a new high school. The tax rate for the bond was set at $0.40 for 40 years. The new high school completed November 1922.
  • In 1927, the Nocona voters passed a bond to build a primary school (South Ward). Land was purchased for new school in May 1927. Final bond payment 1967.
  • In 1940, Nocona ISD received funds from the Works Progress Administration (WPA) to build a 3-bus garage with a band hall on the second floor. The District borrowed $3,150 from F&M bank at 7% interest and a loan of $1,308 from J.A. Fosshee at 6% interest to add an addition to and repairs to the gym.
  • In 1952, Nocona voters passed a bond to build a new high school.
  • In 1977, Nocona voters voted against a bond 355 to 681 (66%) to build a new middle school.
  • In 1978, Nocona voters passed a bond 472 to 296 (61%) to build a new middle school and additions to the elementary. The school tax rate was M&O $1.50 and I&S $0.46 for total of $1.96 school tax rate in 1978. Final bond payment was in 1997.
  • In 1996, 6 additional rooms and a gym were added to the elementary.
  • In 2016, Nocona voters voted against a bond 426 to 552 (56%) to build a new high school.
